Manager Patrick will greet you with the words ‘welcome home’, and that is what arriving here feels like. Set in a private Okavango Delta safari concession of 8,000 hectares, south east of Moremi Game Reserve in the heart of the Okavango Delta, is Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp. Nestled under a canopy of African ebony trees, and overlooking expansive lagoons and channels as well as reeded floodplains, Nxabega Okavango Camp offers a scenic delta experience. With only ten tents, the camp is exclusive and personal. The tents were refurbished at the beginning of 2016 and boast both an indoor and outdoor shower, private sala (the perfect retreat after a safari day) and new furniture. Families are also taken care of: two of the tents will be converted into spacious family tents. All the tents are close to the water; at night you can hear the hippos rumbling about just on the other side of the canvas. Or hear them splashing their rotund bodies in the Okavango Delta, as they make their way back into deeper waters when the sun rises. The area offers some of the best leopard sightings, is a paradise for bird lovers and provides great overall wildlife viewing - and isn’t that why you are here?

Accommodation at Nxabega Okavango Camp comprises ten East African-style safari tents on raised wooden platforms with private decks. The elegant, rustic tents with their chocolate toned interiors are en-suite with shower and toilet, furnished with wardrobes, luggage racks, chairs, dressing tables, bedside tables and fans. Each overlooks the floodplains to keep you engaged with the wildlife. Tents are linked to the communal area by wooden walkways, skirting the lagoon. At the heart of Nxabega Camp, you will find the elevated central area constructed of local timber, reed and thatch with a focus on indoor and outdoor living. This area consists of dining and sitting rooms - each very inviting, with soft chairs and couches - and expansive decks with comfortable furniture; there is also an outside dining area, a swimming pool and a safari shop.

Activities at &Beyond Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp

Nxabega offers a combination of land and water activities - from daily game drives, bush walks, Okavango Delta cruises in a powerboat and mokoro excursions, to excellent bird watching. For the game drives, you will awaken at 6 AM, and on the road by 7 AM – no time to waste - the spectacular wildlife is waiting! You don’t need to plan your entire stay at Nxabega Okavango Tented Camp, the staff is more than happy to propose suggestions for the day, and they make sure all the activities are covered. Besides game drives, you can venture out for an early fishing expedition with field manager Dave, or take a mokoro trip – the activity this area is most famous for. Traditionally, the boats used to be hand crafted out of Delta trees, but these days, most boats are fibreglass replicas, to save the trees. Trunk or fibre: nothing feels more exhilarating than gliding silently through the clear waters at sunset, riddled with fairy-like pink water lilies, water birds and the Painted Reed Frog. End your Okavango Delta safari with a sundowner at the hippo pool, while the orange and pink painted sky reflects beautifully in the silent water (that is except when a hippo decides to dive in). We stayed 4 nights in May 2015 and lived an incredible experience. It's difficult to explain as it is just unbelievable, it is the perfect combination for "wild and relax". No need to take any extra tour as everything is included. Just let the staff propose. Only the helicopter scenic tour is a must.
