In the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, adjacent to the Moremi Game Reserve, you will find yourself overlooking a secluded lagoon on a permanent water source – don’t be surprised if hippos keep an eye on your private terrace, peeking just above the water surface. Or hop in the mokoro canoe and take a closer look at water lilies and birds such as the African jacana or pied kingfisher. If you are lucky, the kingfisher might catch his lunch right in front of your eyes. What is a true Okavango Delta safari without sleeping under canvas? Kwara accommodates a maximum of sixteen guests in eight intimate, traditionally styled tents on raised wooden platforms. All the tents boast a private deck, offering superb views of the lagoon. How many hippos do you count? The tents have en-suite bathrooms with inside and outside showers and, dear newlyweds, the honeymoon tent includes an outdoor bath. The camp is unfenced, so lock the door when you leave (to keep curious baboons out). The main camp areas maintain open sides to make the most of the views. There is a raised lounge and dining deck and a sandy bush clearing for fireside evenings. A plunge pool is set slightly away from the main camp area. Serenely nestled in the wild bush, you will feel protected by towering African ebony and mangosteen trees - keeping the camp cool and providing boundless birdlife.

Activities at Kwara Camp

Surrounded by clear, rich water, you are free to cast a rod for catching fresh fish. Luckily, Kwara offers a wide variety of activities, including power boating and fishing (spin casting equipment is provided, but fly fisherman need to bring their own). Boat trips at Kwara are usually on an unusual double-decker boat, which has great views over the papyrus. Whatever your choice of activity, your days will start with a gentle wake-up call, fresh tea or coffee around the campfire, and then it is time to venture out for your Okavango Delta safari. As wildlife is most active in the morning or evening, chances you will spot a leopard catching her breath from a fresh kill are plentiful. Or go for a game walk; a walk in the bush can be surprisingly relaxing and provides a closer inspection of the natural surroundings. At Kwara, the trackers or rangers do not rush through any of the safari activities. Stop for a while and stare in amazement at sleeping lions, take time to watch a gangly giraffe eating fresh leaves, or observe a wild dog with her cubs. After such incredible experiences, you will want to share them with other guests over your home cooked dinner under a star-pricked sky.

Awesome camp right in the middle of everything, including the animals! “Tents” and accommodations were perfect, very comfortable and first class. The food and drinks were excellent. The staff quickly became close friends and were every bit as excited as we were when spotting animals. The first day we saw a pack of lions take down a warthog, and a large pack of wild dogs. The next day, after a rather large elephant joined us for morning coffee and tea in camp, we headed out and saw a cheetah take down an antelope. You get very close to the animals and won’t be disappoint capturing images on nothing more than a simple point and shoot camera. I would highly recommend Kwara camp to anyone looking for a real safari experience.

Located in a grove of trees facing the water Kwara is a lovely camp with canvas rented rooms looking out onto the water. Though the tents were smaller and more basic than other camps visited, they were comfortable and fine with us. Enjoyed hearing hippos from our tent and seeing a variety of wildlife including 4 male lions, cheetah and more!
