Pom Pom Camp

Lodge style Soulful safari in the heart of the delta

Family getaway

Pom Pom Camp is named after one of the countless beautiful islands in the Okavango Delta. Pom Pom Island is a private concession situated in the centre of the delta and on the headwaters of the Xudum river system. The area lies on the western boundary of the Moremi Game Reserve and offers superb Okavango scenery; Pom Pom Camp overlooks a permanent lagoon laden with reeds, water lilies, birdlife and hippos. The Okavango Delta is one of the last remaining unspoiled wilderness areas of Africa, so this is where you go for a pure, wholesome and unpolluted safari. The camp is spacious and comfy, punctuated with warm, earth tones, and the staff and service are just as kind-hearted - this gem of the Okavango Delta is known as much for its “soul” as for the delta swamps it is named after. By arriving at Pom Pom, the notable welcome song, sung by the staff, prepares you for a very special stay.

Built in traditional safari style, all nine tents, including a family and honeymoon tent, are spread out under shady trees and overlook the tranquil and scenic lagoon. Wake up with a fresh coffee on your large, shaded verandah as the orangey sun rises above the crystal clear lagoon. Is there a better way to start your day in the Okavango Delta? All tents are set on raised wooden decks to provide the perfect vantage point for viewing game. The luxurious and roomy canvas tents boasts big beds, soft pillows and en-suite bathrooms consisting a washbasin, flush loo and spacious outside showers (with plenty of hot water for an unwinding rinse under the stars). Slide yourself into soft sheets at night and fall asleep with the sound of hippos calling at the lagoon. Homey and warmly decorated, the open sided main lodge is constructed out of thatch and canvas comprising a stylish lounge, dining and bar area and small curio shop. Order gin-tonics at the bar and relax in the lounge chairs around the pool. Or swing softly in one of the hammocks near the fire pit and boma, before dinner starts.

Activities at Pom Pom Camp in Okavango Delta

Wildlife, walking safaris, boat excursions, fishing (unfortunately not in January and February); it is all possible at Pom Pom Camp. Pom Pom has the advantage of being able to conduct year-round land and water based activities, and the guides will paint you a complete picture of the delta’s natural splendor. The safari walks are a must-do; without the boundaries of a vehicle, your Okavango Delta safari experience will be even more intense. After two safari activities – one in the morning and one in the afternoon - it is time to put your feet up and slow down. While relaxing, you can still watch bushbuck nibble the grass or spot monkeys flying through the trees. Share anecdotes with guests from around the world in the communal lounge area during sundowners, or over a tasty dinner (the chef will entice you try different types of venison, like kudu and warthog - a treat for your taste buds). And who knows what stories will be unveiled when it is time for after-dinner springbok shooters; a half peppermint and half Amarula cocktail. One thing is certain: returning to Pom Pom Camp is a necessity, so cheers to that.

Tripadvisor comments Pom Pom Camp

My children (ages 10 and 12) and I stayed at Pom Pom for three nights in August. We had a truly amazing time. Rams and Lake were our guides and they were terrific - we saw loads of animals with their help and learned a tonne. In fact, all of the staff were great, very welcoming and helpful. The lodges are gorgeous too - spacious, clean, private. My children's only complaint (honestly!) was that we were not booked to stay longer. We were able to travel in Botswana and Zimbabwe for a month and this place is at the absolute top of our list as a place we loved.

Spent 3 days at Pom Pom Camp in the Okovango. We flew in from Maun. The welcome we received on arrival was great .The luxury tents are fantastic with the bush sounds surrounding you. The food and wine is great. The service is fantastic. The game drive was superb and we saw many different animals and birds. I would recommend this to all.
