Selinda Camp

Lodge style Nourishment for the soul

Laid back luxury

Resting on the banks of the eastern Selinda Spillway in the 129,000 hectare private Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana is Selinda Camp. Extensive raised decks at Selinda Camp provide excellent views over endless floodplains, where wildlife is abundant. Unfortunately, it wasn’t always like this: the wildlife on this concession had been hunted down to virtually nothing. So when Great Plains Conservation took over Selinda Reserve in 2006, there was much to rescue. But now, thoroughly revitalized, you are able to visit one of Africa’s best areas once again. Welcome to a prime location, deep within rich wildlife territory, where the surroundings are spectacular. This luxurious, shaded camp affords extraordinary views over the prolific floodplains and savannas. By choosing nature’s colour palette, the camp seamlessly blends into the surroundings . And while you enjoy the broad vista’s, matriarch ‘Sweet Mommy B’ will pamper you with her soulful warmth and kindness – she makes you feel at home right away. And she is not the only one; the whole team consists of like-minded souls, who made it their personal mission to make you feel very comfortable.

The nine spacious and sturdy canvas tents are shaded by thatch roofing and raised on a wooden deck. A family unit includes two bedrooms with shared bathroom. Large comfortable beds are dressed in fine linen and draped with mosquito nets. The en-suite bathroom is accessed through a sliding door and comprises a deep stone bath, double vanity, flush toilet and antique shower. There is a writing desk, lounge furniture and a large private verandah extending into the bush. Wake up with an aromatic breeze wafting through the windows, while you gaze out over the Delta, and grab the (complimentary) high definition binoculars to peek at early morning wildlife. Fans and hairdryers are also available in each tent. The grand architecture of the main area with its high-beamed ceilings, traditional thatch roof and raised wooden foundation keeps the area cool. There is a lounge, dining area, star deck, tea deck, art gallery, reading area, wine cellar, curio shop, plunge pool and traditional camp fire.

Activities at Selinda Camp

Game viewing from the camp is plentiful; this area of the Delta is home to some of the largest herds of elephant and buffalo left in Southern Africa. And, this is one of the last great bastions of the endangered African wild dog – lycaon pictus – or, as this species is also called, the “painted wolf”. Luckily, there are many opportunities to venture out and discover the surroundings of Selinda Camp. Activities offered include day, afternoon and night game drives, safari walks from the camp or game vehicle and bird watching. Of course, you can’t leave the Delta without testing the waters. Boating activities, mokoro canoe excursions, and even catching a fish for the ‘braai’ (a traditional African barbecue): it is all possible. After an exciting day, unwind with a massage in the comfort of your own tent. In the meantime, the chefs at Selinda Camp make sure all your cravings are satisfied: homemade ice cream, abundant pastries (this is one of the chef’s specialties), an extensive wine cellar with the best African wines, plenty of fresh vegetables – mind, body and soul: it is Selinda Camp’s mission to have you fully recharged and revitalized.

Tripadvisor comments Selinda Camp

This is a fantastic camp! The staff is very welcoming and well trained. The rooms are amazing with wildlife right outside and have everything you need and more. The guides are expert trackers and we never had a slow day. Predators in particular are in abundance. We were made to feel very special during our stay there.

My husband and I visited Selinda last week on our second trip to Southern Africa for safari. Our guide was Stanley and he was amazing. We absolutely loved our experience with him; he was knowledgeable, informative, hilarious, and made every moment interesting, exciting, or informative. We saw so much wildlife with Stanley, and also learned so much about Botswana, the delta, animals, plants, it was just spectacular. We loved the camp all around - thought the rooms were beautiful, the main area also super nice, and truly enjoyed each staff member we connected with. We loved the entire experience, have been to 6 different properties in Southern Africa and this is by far our favorite.
