Shinde Camp

Lodge style Classic and charming

Best of both worlds

Be face to face with a grazing hippo when you step out on your private deck, observe a leopard right outside your jeep, or find a bathing elephant blocking your way in the Delta with its giant, floppy ears - at Shinde Camp, you will have a great combination between all that nature has to offer; on both land and water. Shinde is located in a private concession in the heart of the northern Okavango Delta, on a paradisiacal, lush palm island. Nestled on the edge of Shinde Lagoon amongst shady trees, this well-established camp is surrounded by permanent water and long views over the grass plains. Shinde Camp was refurbished in 2015: all eight safari tents now boast a spacious bathroom (that feels more like a personal spa) with a large walk-in (rain) shower. And with brand new furnishings, you can drink your coffee at sunrise in an even more comfortable lounge chair. What stayed the same at Shinde Camp is the elegant, historical charm and homey feeling. All staff members share the same pride and respect for this land and its inhabitants, and this radiates through everything they do.

Shinde Camp comprises eight twin-bedded classic safari tents (doubles on request) strategically positioned to offer splendid views over the Okavango Delta waterways or wide, open grass plains. The tents are raised off the ground on wooden platforms, comfortably decorated with wooden furnishings and African fabrics. The beds are softer than ever, the shower is more luxurious and the views are, as always, stunning. All tents offer en-suite facilities that includes a double vanity, separate toilet, shower and selection of bathroom amenities: overhead fan, mosquito net and shady, front deck area. Walk over connected wooden walkways to the multi-tiered guest area and settle down in what feels like an intimate tree house. There is a dining room and lounge, bar and fire pit and a secluded plunge pool with views over the plains. Bring a good book, shut off all the cell phones, and nestle down in one of the numerous seating areas: absorb the scenic surroundings and reconnect with ancient nature.

Activities in Okavango Delta at Shinde Camp

The best part of Shinde Camp is the courtesy of its location: this camp offers both water and land activities in the Okavango Delta year round. Hop in a specially designed, open vehicle in the morning and afternoon for an exciting game drive. Leopard, lions, crocodiles, elephants, baboons, countless birds - guides Bee, Aubrey and all the others are extremely observant and can spot animals everywhere. Discover the habitat of water birds, plants, reptiles, fish and other Delta-residents during a traditional (and very relaxing) mokoro canoe excursion. Or jump in a motorboat, to see a wider swath of the Okavango. Feeling even more adventurous? Leave all the vehicles behind, and take a walk on the wild side; a skilled guide will make sure you discover more secrets of the bush during a Okavango Delta safari walk, in the safest way possible. Fishing enthusiasts can test their luck in the Botswana waterways and fish for species such as tilapia and tigerfish. Waterways, land, lagoons, and savannah; here you will find the best this world away has to offer.

Tripadvisor comments Shinde Camp

Our family of 9 stayed at Shinde for 3 nights during our Botswana safari adventure. The staff, the accommodations, the activities and the food were all spectacular. Aubrey and Bee were so knowledgeable and fun to be with, they really enhanced our whole experience. The tents are luxurious and clean. The dining area is beautifully designed with a breathtaking view. We had an amazing time at Shinde and would never return to Africa without going back there.

We came to Shinde for the second time and spent 3 nights. The wildlife was amazing, we saw lions, leopards, wild dogs, hyena... the camp is very nice and comfortable, the staff are wonderful. The food was better than last time and the rooms were remodeled, even though they were very nice on our last trip. Guides were amazing.
