Shinde Enclave

Lodge style Exclusive hideout

Personal pampering

Situated in the Shinde Private Concession in the north-eastern Okavango Delta, is an exclusive ‘camp within a camp’: Shinde Enclave. This intimate camp offers a year-round land and water delta experience. Overlooking windswept papyrus beds, the area is home to many aquatic species including the rarely-seen sitatunga; a beautiful, elegant antelope with curly horns. Here, you can turn a safari experience into one that belongs to your fantasies; a trip that will meet all your expectations. Travel with a small group or family and plan activities with your own senior guide and the luxury of your own vehicle. This way, you can spend more time in the bush (where the staff will organise yummy bush lunches too). When you return to the camp, dinner will be served at your convenience, straight out of the private kitchen to your personal dining area. The camp was completely refurbished in 2015, and reflects classic safari elegance, with a contemporary twist (in the form of a spacious bathroom, walk-in shower, extremely comfortable beds and inviting lounge chairs). This small, high-class camp offers an everlasting safari experience, which was never so close to your wildest anticipations.

By accommodating a maximum of six guests, the three classic safari tents are perfect for families or a group of friends. Raised on teak decks, facing the delta, your tent offers around-the-clock striking views on your private viewing area. The tents are mosquito-proofed with en-suite facilities, hot and cold running water and flush toilet ‘with a view’. All furniture and decoration come in tasteful colours, matching the varied palette of Botswana. From your luxury tents, it is only a few steps to the private dining area and viewing deck. There is a kitchen in which a private chef will prepare heart warming, home cooked African meals (with a great variety) and a waiter to serve excellent sundowners, that are highly recommend sipping during beautiful sunsets.

Activities at Shinde Enclave

At Shinde Enclave, you will have your knowledgeable and experienced guide all to yourself throughout your stay in the Okavango Delta. Schedule safari activities at your leisure and don’t hesitate to inform them how you envision your stay and want to see. There is plenty to discover: the camp offers land and water based activities throughout the year. Start your morning with fresh tea or coffee on your deck, and prepare yourself for the morning game drive, occasionally followed by a picnic in the bush. After a satisfying brunch and some well-deserved siesta time, the afternoon game drives often extend into the evening. Besides game drives, exploring the tranquil waterways by mokoro or motorboat is a must – while sliding through the crystal clear Delta waters, you will soon understand why this land is a World Heritage Side. After discovering land and water by car and boat, the more adventurous will go for a guided safari walk. Anglers can also catch local fish during a fishing tour (not in January and February). You will be amazed how much more there is to discover by taking smaller steps. If you are looking for a personal and luxurious, mind, body and soul pampering experience, this is the place.

I stayed at Shinde with my teenage son for 2 nights. We had a great time. The whole team was very welcoming. The room was beautiful with a lovely outlook to the grasslands. The treehouse setting for the main areas was very clever and we had some lovely meals with the team and other guests here, including one very nice meal in a separate part of the camp - with stars glistening above. Our guide, Aubrey, took us on some great adventures, including seeing leopards, baby elephants and most spectacularly, following wild dogs as they went on a hunt. We really enjoyed our stay and can totally recommend this camp to others.
